WelcomeA LITTLE ABOUT ME:
Hello, and welcome! I live in South-West Queensland, Australia and have a passion for art, the land, the animals and the lifestyle. It can be a harsh environment with the area facing what seems like an eternal drought, broken only by the odd monumental flood. I have grown up in the area and my children have enjoyed all the benefits of a bush upbringing. Now that they are growing up, my husband has encouraged me to invest some time in myself and pursue my love of art. Portraiture is something I'm very interested in. People are fascinating and I find that rural people are full of character, have amazing resilience, determination and open hearts. In a small community you get to know everyone and share in their achievements, challenges and celebrations. There is a real sense of community and connection. So when I'm rendering the image of an animal, landscape or human being I want the viewer to connect with the piece; whether that be through some kind of an emotional response or perhaps triggering a memory of some kind. Everyone has a story and capturing the mood of the model in a stolen moment of time and having the viewer engage and empathise with the model is the ultimate goal. The rural landscape holds endless inspiration and when creating these works, I strive for a certain degree of realism and delight in the challenge of creating a three dimensional form on paper. Recent works have been pastels or charcoal on paper. I enjoy the vibrant colour and immediate layering you can achieve with pastels. Images are created by layering and blending the medium, creating subtle value shifts and texture which create the illusion of form. I am mainly self taught but have attended workshops with:- Lyn Barnes (Quilpie) - Pastel Maxwell Wilks - Pastel Robin Eley - (oils - Adelaide Art Academy) David Kassan - (Drawing - Adelaide Art Academy) Thank you for visiting the site and I hope you enjoy browsing through my selection of landscapes and portraits.
